Aging may look different in South Asian bodies

Standard biological-age models lean on cardiometabolic markers calibrated to Western populations. Here's what the evidence shows about South Asian-specific aging signals.

Cardiometabolic aging

Biological age estimates are often derived from cardiometabolic markers (lipids, glucose, inflammation, blood pressure) calibrated on Western reference populations. Since South Asians show distinct patterns in these same markers — including earlier-onset cardiovascular risk and the “thin-fat” metabolic phenotype — pace-of-aging estimates may need population-specific calibration to be accurate.

Lp(a) and long-term cardiovascular aging

Because Lp(a) is genetically determined and strongly linked to long-term cardiovascular risk, and is both more prevalent and less frequently tested in South Asian populations, it represents a longevity-relevant marker that standard aging panels often omit.
